SPSF Board Member, Wayne Brownlee Appointed to the Order of Canada

We are thrilled to join the community in celebrating Wayne Brownlee, esteemed Board Member of the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation (SPSF), on his appointment to the Order of Canada — one of the nation’s highest and most prestigious honours.

Wayne’s appointment, announced by the Governor General of Canada, recognizes his remarkable leadership in business and philanthropy, as well as his enduring commitment to community well‑being. As former Chief Financial Officer of PotashCorp, he played a pivotal role in guiding the company’s evolution into Nutrien, helping build one of the world’s most significant agricultural enterprises.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Wayne’s philanthropic impact has been profound. Together with his wife, Ina‑Lou Brownlee, he has championed transformative initiatives in education, heritage preservation, and community revitalization. Among their many contributions is the historic $10 million gift to SPSF’s Early Learning Equal Start literacy program — one of the largest education donations in Saskatchewan’s history.

A Legacy of Recognition and Community Impact

Wayne’s list of honours reflects a lifetime of service and leadership:

  • In 2025, he was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal, recognizing his contributions to Canadian society.
  • In 2022, he was named to the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the province’s highest civilian honour, celebrating his exceptional commitment to the well‑being of Saskatchewan and beyond.
  • In 2021, the University of Saskatchewan presented him with its Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging his outstanding accomplishments and dedication to community service.

In addition to these awards, Wayne’s leadership extends through his ongoing volunteer service on numerous boards and advisory councils, including roles with the Edwards School of Business, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, and other local and national organizations.

A Lasting Influence

This well‑deserved recognition reflects Wayne’s lasting influence across business, education, and the broader community. His vision and generosity continue to inspire and uplift countless individuals and institutions throughout Saskatchewan and Canada.

We are profoundly grateful for his leadership and proud to have him serve on the SPSF Board of Directors.

Congratulations, Wayne!
