SPSF will be inviting over 500 students from 20 schools to come downtown for a field trip day. The “street fair” style event includes fun and educational activity stations led by local individuals or organizations such as Nutrien Wonderhub, the Roughriders Foundation, Alice Kuipers etc. Programming will be for Kindergarten-Grade 3 in the morning and Grade 4-8 in the afternoon.
All In for Literacy Day celebrates education and the hard work of the schools and teachers by providing a fun and educational day for the students, while also bringing awareness to the daily challenges faced in our schools and community. To eliminate any potential barriers, the field trip is offered free of charge to all attending schools with bussing, food, and take-home items provided and paid for by SPSF and partners.
All funds raised for the event will go toward the All In Campaign to continually fund SPSF’s Early Learning Equal Start (ELES) initiatives. The key initiatives supported by ELES and the All In Endowment are:
- Full-day Kindergarten in 29 schools
- 60 Page Turners Programs
- Camp Brain Power for over 460 students.
These initiatives are in direct response to the fact that each year, almost 30% of students in Saskatoon Public Schools, through no fault of their own, do not achieve Grade 3 literacy upon the completion of Grade 3. These facts are even more concerning in our core neighborhoods, where up to 60% of Grade 3 students do not achieve this criticalmilestone that can set them on a path for on-time high school graduation. Post-programming, over 80% of students in the core schools are shown to achieve expected benchmarks.
