We have partnered with Wanuskewin Gift Shop and Awasis Boutique in support of Orange Shirt Day and reconciliation. Christine – a single mother to two Saskatoon Public Schools students – is the proud owner of Awasis Boutique, and she has been selling “Every Child Matters” shirts the last several months. Through her amazing efforts, she has sold hundreds of shirts and donated over $15,000 to the IRSSS.
To continue this initiative, Awasis Boutique, Wanuskewin, and SPSF have partnered to raise funds in support of the SPSF’s Early Learning Equal Start campaign. Here is a small excerpt from the Wanuskewin website explaining this partnership:
“We have donated over $15K to the IRSSS and are now looking to donate locally. Therefore now 100% of the proceeds of each sale will now be donated to Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation’s Early Learning Equal Start (ELES).According to Saskatoon Public Schools 30% of Saskatoon students in Grade 3 do not read at a Grade 3 level and in certain Community Schools that number is as high as 60%. Our donations will be directed towards the Community Schools where more than 70% of the students identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit. We are investing in Indigenous children and listening to the advice of an Elder who is also a residential school survivor, passing on the same words of wisdom that she always told to her young ones “Read, Read, Read.”
